Each region of India carries within it a story of resistance—a tale where faith rises above fanaticism, where survival prevails against overwhelming odds, and where the echoes of transgenerational trauma lie dormant only to erupt like a volcano.

1398: Bhargavi and the Mongol Storm embodies these stories in its retelling of the brave stand taken by Raja Dulachand of Bhatner against the ferocious forces of Timur and the aftermath of that confrontation. At its heart, it is the saga of a Rajpurohit and his daughter who safeguard an ancient Vigraha from the invading Timurid army—a struggle whose resonances continue to reverberate even today.

This narrative highlights how the people of Bhatner fought until their last breath to defend their motherland. As JW Bond and Arnold Wright observed, the Bhatis of Bhatner displayed such valor in repelling successive waves of invasions that they earned the title “Uttar Bharkinwar”—the mighty portals of the north of India.

Blending historical events with fictional characters, the book weaves together past and present. Anecdotes from history and cultural traditions of Bharat are interlaced with contemporary storytelling, making this a powerful chronicle of courage, heritage, and resilience.
