Dalai Lama

Thupten Jinpa is an internationally known Buddhist scholar and former Tibetan monk. He has been the principal English translator to His Holiness the Dalai Lama since 1985, has traveled with him extensively, and has assisted him on numerous books, including the New York Times bestsellers Ethics for the New Millennium and The Art of Happiness. Jinpa’s own publications include works in Tibetan as well as English translations of major Tibetan texts such as A Fearless Heart: How the Courage to be Compassionate Can Transform Our Lives and Tsongkhapa: A Buddha in the Land of Snows. Jinpa is a noted speaker on the dialogue between Buddhism and science, secular adaptations of mindfulness, and compassion practices. He is a co-founder and president of the Compassion Institute, Chair of the Mind & Life Institute, founder of the Institute of Tibetan Classics, and an adjunct professor at the School of Religious Studies at McGill University.

Manuel Bauer is a Swiss photographer, author, cameraman, and lecturer in photojournalism. He creates long-term reportages about social justice and the environment, and has received international awards such as World Press Photo and Picture of the Year. He has been documenting the life of the 14th Dalai Lama since 1990. He was the only photographer to date to accompany Tibetans on their perilous escape across the Himalayas in 1995. He is the co-author and cameraman of the documentary Wisdom of Happiness—A Heart-to-Heart with the Dalai Lama.
