In the snow-clad valleys and volatile streets of Kashmir, where beauty and bloodshed coexist, Maj Gen Ranjan Mahajan has lived stories that few dare to tell. Kashmir in the Line of Fire brings those stories to life of young soldiers forged in the crucible of conflict, of civilians caught between faith and fear, and of a land that refuses to lose its soul.

Across five tenures in Kashmir spanning three decades, Maj Gen Ranjan witnessed the rise of militancy, the endurance of the Army, and the unyielding spirit of ordinary people confronting unordinary times. Through vivid accounts of encounters, moments of loss and grace, and heroism that rarely reach the headlines, he offers an intimate portrait of a soldier’s world.

Written with candour and humility, Kashmir in the Line of Fire is both a memoir and a reminder that even in the harshest theatres of conflict, humanity endures, and many a time, even triumphs.
