The book is designed to appeal to surgical trainees as well as those in independent practice. The initial chapters on core principles, critical care and trauma are followed by the major components of general surgery: gastrointestinal, vascular, breast, endocrine and transplantation. The book ends with a more limited coverage of those allied surgical specialties – pediatric, head and neck, genitourinary, skin and soft tissue, cardiothoracic – that from time to time will be relevant to those caring for patients in a “general” surgical ward or clinic.
